OFFICIALLY APPROVED

Caste Census 2026: Latest Status

Yes, the Caste Census is happening! Here is everything you need to know about the dates and process.

Latest Update: The Government has officially approved the Caste Census! It will be conducted digitally, and you can even fill it out yourself on your phone.

When will it start?

Many people are asking "When is the Caste Census starting?". The process is divided into two big steps. Here is the simple timeline:

Step 1: April 2026 - September 2026

House Listing Phase

In this first step, officers will visit your area just to count the houses. They won't ask detailed caste questions yet. They just want to know how many families live where.

Step 2: February 2027

Population & Caste Enumeration

This is the main event! In Feb 2027, the actual counting of people and their Castes will happen. You will be asked about your:

  • ✅ Caste Name (Jaati)
  • ✅ Sub-Caste
  • ✅ Education & Job

Why is it happening now?

It has been a long time since India had a proper Caste Census (the last full one was way back in 1931!). The government wants to know the correct numbers of OBCs (Other Backward Classes) and other groups so they can make better plans for schools, jobs, and welfare schemes.

Basically, to help people better, they need to know "Who lives where" and "How they are doing".

Common Questions

Is this different from the 2011 SECC? +

Yes! The 2011 SECC data was never fully released for Castes. This new 2026-27 Census is fresh and aims to fix the mistakes of the past. It is a completely new count.

Do I need papers/documents? +

Mostly, you will just need your Aadhaar card or Voter ID to prove who you are. The caste part is usually self-declared (you tell them, they record it). We will update the exact document list soon on our Apply Page.
